Is it Acne or Maskne? Tips and Tricks that actually WORK!

Breakouts can be more painful than breakups, they keep coming back, they’re stubborn, hard to cover-up, leave scars and the worst part, they know when you have a special event coming up, so like that one toxic ex, they never forget to attend you when you’re happy.

Like we didn’t have enough of them, hormonal breakouts, cystic acne and now ‘Maskne' a new term added to Corona dictionary; is a form of acne, prominently appearing on your cheeks, chin and around your mouth due to regular usage of masks.

Why Maskne?

When you wear a mask for a long time period without any breaks, the skin under the mask can get heated up constantly and hence produces more oil, sebum specifically. We sweat a lot and there’s humidity trapped inside our masks too so no doubt why bacteria be playing there and taking that advantage.

Maskne Tips

Here are a few things to avoid,

·         Keep it Minimal – Avoid layering multiple products and serums, you just need a lightweight moisturizer and sunscreen, don’t ever miss your sunscreen or your skin will hate you.

·         Makeup – Avoid wearing makeup as much as you can, especially underneath that mask.

·         Clean it – Something that we all should do but we don’t, wash your reusable cloth masks everyday.

·         Acids and actives -  Avoid Vit C and chemical exfoliation. This tip actually applies to all types of acne conditions, you should skip exfoliation and try to create a nice skin barrier to balance that skin pH, use ingredients like Centella asiatica (Cica) , Ceramides, Honey, Azulene etc.
