Post-Sun skincare – Let’s de-tan!
Some TLC can never hurt anyone, especially when you’ve been there in the sun. Spending time outdoors in summer can really be a task and your skin has to take a lot, be it the prolonged sun exposure, the pollution or your sunscreen. Yes, it is recommended that you should reapply your sunscreen every two hours but the sun can get really annoying when it gets sweaty and this sunscreen gets mixed up with harmful environmental aggressors leaving your skin sticky and gross.
We all talk a lot about pre-sun skincare, rarely do we know that slicking your skin with SPF is not an alternative to post-sun skin care.
Is there actually something called ‘Safe Tan’?
No, tanning is never safe or ‘healthy' because some amount of UV rays have to actually pierce your skin to give you that “glow” which eventually leads to irreversible skin damage and can even thicken your skin’s texture.
De-tan at home
Tanning is bad, worse when it’s uneven and patchy! To get rid of this nightmare, here are some quick fix tips,
Aloe Gel
After-sun skin care should be cooling and calming and what’s better than aloe gel, the first step should always be a mild cleanse followed by a hydrating routine. Aloe gel has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties, slice a fresh leaf and scoop out some gel or slather on your favorite aloe based product, this will calm your skin and reduce redness too.
It’s time for a homemade yogurt mask and you can always make it better with some cucumber slices on your eyes. Mix 1 tbsp of yogurt with a pinch of turmeric and a tsp of honey, apply it generously, wash off and pat dry after 15 minutes.
Decongest with Floral water
Sun damage can often lead to congestion. Congested skin has tiny bumps and dead skin cells around hair follicles, these are not squeezable but you can feel that uneven texture, your skin usually produces excessive sebum when it’s congested and that leads to irritation. Choose a light mist or floral water and keep your skin hydrated, keep spraying your decongestant mist and let your skin absorb all the goodness.
Post-sun skin care should be all about restoring the lost skin barrier, choose ceramides and creamier formulas as moisturizers, also avoid any scrubs and gritty skincare.
We hope you found it helpful and don’t forget to hydrate yourself!
